How long will it take for my web site to be online?

If you have a clear idea of your needs and keep the scope towards the simple side, we can have your web site up within a week. Of course this varies greatly from project to project. We can give you a better estimate once we gather your requirements.

Do you use the latest standards?

Our preferred method of programming uses the latest languages that will work on 95% of the browsers used today. We can accommodate clients that have needs for older web standards. Our most common languages utilized are XHTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, and MySQL.

Who owns the web site once PLT creates it?

You own your web site. Point Loma Technology simply gives the professional knowledge you need to design, code, and implement the project.

Will I have my log-in and passwords for my site?

Absolutely. As the business owner you should always have control over your assets. As a web site owner it is crucial to have a backup of your site in your possession along with the login information for your host provider.

Do you require a month-to-month contract?

No. You can choose to stop our services at any time with no advance notice. Our goal is to provide superior service that you will not find elsewhere.

Can I create a good web site using my own program built for making web sites?

Unfortunately creating a web site is not as easy as typing a word-processor document. Countless hours will be spent trying to do seemingly simple tasks, only to learn that the desired look is not possible with that web site builder. Often the final web site will not work in one of the major browsers. Even to build a basic web site the creator needs a general knowledge in HTML and CSS. To add something as simple as a contact form requires a basic knowledge in a server-side language like PHP or Pearl. A business web site needs to look professional, be search engine optimized, have optimized photo files, be cross-browser compatible, and meet accessibility standards. The time spent building a web site with a program can easily exceed 40 hours for the first time user and many standards will not be met.

I just need someone to design my initial web site and think I can do updates myself. Would your design support this?

We would be happy to create a design that allows you to easily update it. We build the web site to your specifications and can make an effort to make the code simpler and easier to update. We can also train you to do simple changes. Of course we are always there to help you get over any future obstacles on an as-needed basis.

I already have a web site, but feel that it doesn’t meet our needs. Can Point Loma Technology re-design our site?

This is a common request. With a short consultation and a few hours of analysis, we can provide a report with recommendations for your re-design.

I got a very low quote from another company to do a web page. How can they do it so cheap?

As with most things in life, the value you get is likely to match to what you pay. Sometimes buying cheap means buying twice. There are companies out there exclusively using templates and/or overseas workers. A bad web site is sometimes worse than no web site at all because the impression you leave customers is negative and cheap. I'm sure most people would be worried about an electrician who charged rates at 80% less than the industry standard. The same holds true here.

I am doing my own web site. Can you help me get through a few roadblocks?

We can offer consultations. Sometimes just a few hours of professional help is all someone needs to get over a hurdle.

What is SEO and do you offer it?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This is the process of designing and coding your web site in order to maximize results on the search engines' searches (Google, Yahoo, Ask!, etc...).
